Town

Plains grass
isn’t brilliant
green
flowers
imperfect handfuls
Gringos
trot graying
mustangs
Forever
taverns at night
theirs
dancing guitars
beats like hooves
Rattlesnake whiskey
drinks
milk and moonshine
Copper mines
Forgotten
old
stone foundations
Filled-in
spring-fed
wells
Black top
over wagon ruts
nowhere
was somewhere
Cussed,
swore
silence
meant nothing
